Once the original Catherine by Atlus had great success, developers decided to continue. As a result, now we have an expanded version with extra content called Catherine FullBody. What to expect from the game? Is it worth spending your time on it? Can you play Catherine on PS4? All these and many other questions are answered further in the article.
Catherine Full Body: Game Description
The game Catherine is based on the life of Vincent Brooks. He works as a developer and has a long-time pregnant girlfriend whose name is Katherine. She urges the man to formalize their relationship, but he isn’t very enthusiastic about it. One day, Vincent goes to a bar with his friends as he usually does. There he meets a mysterious beautiful young woman called Catherine who seduces him.
Their one-night adventure turns into an affair. As it progresses, the guy starts to experience tantalizing nightmares of a supernatural kind. Accompanied by other men, he should climb up a tower and outrun scary demons. If he fails, his real life will also end.
The intensity of nightmares grows, as much as Vincent’s stress from leading a double life. Eventually, he decides to end the affair. It leads to a violent conflict involving Vincent himself and his both women. As a result, Catherine seems to be killed. Katherine and her boyfriend reveal the fact they are in a nightmare and escape. As Vincent returns to reality, he discovers that Katherine doesn’t remember the past night’s events. However, she guesses his unfaithfulness and breaks up with him.
Vincent comes to a realization. He is the only one who knows about Catherine. As he searches through his phone, the guy discovers all her messages disappeared. So he decides to confront the bar’s owner, Mutton, who spoke with the girl. Vincent discovers Mutton is actually an ancient deity, while Catherine’s persona represents a succubus. The bar’s proprietor used her help to run his own game. It aims to kill those men who aren’t committed to family life.
Vincent is given one last chance to enter his nightmare and reach the tower’s peak. In case of a successful accomplishment of the task, he is free. Ultimately, the trapped man wins the full game and defeats Mutton.
Exclusively for the Katherine Full Body version, developers created an additional character. It’s Rin who lives next to Vincent and works as a pianist at the bar. He also comforts the main character by playing the piano in his nightmares.
From here, the video game Catherine offers a number of various possible upshots. They’re directly influenced by the decisions a player makes in the process. And this is one of the most exciting parts of the game. Thanks to that, you may feel like filming your own movie with prearranged characters.
Gameplay – Initial And Expanded Version
Both Catherine games (the initial and the expanded version) have two parts. The first one includes segments with social interactions during the daytime. All the moments of talking to people at the bar belong here. The second part comprises nightmare episodes where Vincent navigates the tower location with deadly blocks.
Besides, there is an opportunity to choose between a single-player campaign and a multiplayer mode. The latter one is more challenging and only unlocks when the story is completed.
How can a player actually alter the body game’s ending and what is optional? In the daytime, when having dialogues with characters, you have choices to respond. While staying at the bar, you can buy drinks. They serve as an aid to navigating the nightmare stages better. However, if Vincent has too many drinks, it will be harder to move. There are also a few other activities he can try with little consequences. As soon as the man leaves the bar, it triggers the nightmare section.
Here, you should climb up towers made of numerous blocks. They serve as a material for a stairway you need to build. This is your way to the exit. The most difficult part is that the tower under Vincent’s legs collapses. And he has little time to arrange the blocks in front of him. If it’s not done on time, he falls down and the game is over. So a player has to restart from the last save.
